Home Study Club |
|
Home Study club is an opportunity for students to undertake either Home Study or further school work using the schools IT facilities. It is held every lunchtime in IT3 and after school Monday – Thursday 3pm – 4pm in IT2. The Home Study club is supervised by a member of staff who is there to help support the learning, if requested. This is a quiet working room available to all students who wish to take advantage of it.
This room is particularly important for those students who:
- Do not have reliable access to IT
- Need support developing good habits and routines of working outside of timetable lessons
- Need to keep school separate from home. Especially students who struggle to cope with the distractions of technology
- Need a quiet place to work away from younger siblings
If you do not wish for your child to take advantage of the Home Study club, I would strongly encourage students adopt a ‘lesson 6’ to their normal day. This then becomes a set routine: come in from school, have a snack and a drink, settle down to home study or retrieval practice, revision or additional work if no home study is set. Do this before the TV or games console is put on. This time works best when a student treats ‘lesson 6’ like school with phones put away. Ideally this work should be done downstairs and where someone is able to check in on them. At the kitchen table where a parent is able to take an interest at the end of the hour would be the best situation. I appreciate this will not be possible for all households. Please ask your child to show you their work and discuss what they have been doing celebrating their successes.
If they are unable to do this at home we would recommend the Home study club. |
